Our Community: The Home of the Military Child

The Military Child World Expo Foundation (MCWEF) brings together families, schools, volunteers, and organizations to create a lasting Home of the Military Child. Through shared responsibility, service, and cultural stewardship, our community supports military-connected children across regions and generations.

As the National Association for Military-Connected Children, MCWEF serves as a steward, preserving community traditions, elevating youth voice, and coordinating collective care for those growing up connected to military service.

A FEATURED COMMUNITY TRADITION

Purple Christmas

Purple Christmas is a community tradition rooted in service and belonging. Beginning in 2024, volunteers across the DMV came together over multiple seasons to prepare gifts for military-connected children, and civilians demonstrating how collective care can become lasting legacy.

This tradition represents the earliest expression of what would later become the Home of the Military Child.

SCHOOLS & YOUTH PARTICIPATION

Schools & Youth Participation

Military-connected children are supported not only at home, but in classrooms and communities. MCWEF engages with public and private schools, DoDEA-connected families, and Purple Star Schools to elevate youth voice, strengthen belonging, and recognize the lived experiences of military-connected students.

Educators and youth leaders play a vital role in shaping a community where military children are seen, supported, and celebrated.

CHAPTERS & LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Chapters & Local Communities

The Home of the Military Child is built locally. Through chapters and community-based participation, families and partners come together to reflect regional identity while contributing to a national framework of care and connection.

Chapters serve as entry points for shared leadership, service, and community presence, ensuring military-connected children are supported where they live.
